Mars Rover Perseverance Landing on Mars

NASA's Mars 2020 Rover, Perseverance, is scheduled to touch down on the red planet of Mars at 20:55 UTC, Thursday February 18th 2021. Perseverance launched last year on July 30th on an Atlas V 541 rocket at 11:50 UTC, 06:50 Local time from SLC-41 of Cape Canaveral in Florida, The second month journey to Mars has thus far been fairly quiet, With the final 7 minutes expected to be the most challenging. Landing Events: 20:38 UTC - Cruise Stage Separation 20:48 UTC - Atmospheric Re-Entry Begins 20:49 UTC - Peak Heating 20:52 UTC - Parachute deployment 20:52:20 UTC - Heat Shield Separation 20:54 UTC - Back Shell Separation 20:55 UTC - Rover Touchdown All of the above event times are when Mission Control will see the telemetry, Due to the distance between Earth and Mars the above events actually occur on Mars 11 minutes and 22 seconds before. Thus when we the beginning of atmospheric re-entry, The Rover should already have landed. Coverage begins at 19:15 UTC. #Mars #Mars2020 #Perseverance Video Courtesy: NASA JPL
